Real-time volume rendering support. The new hardware-accelerated volume renderer does not work with all graphics cards since it requires advanced features such as the GL Shading Lanugage (GLSL) and advanced texture float buffers. When prerequisites are not met (check the Log pane), the program usually offers running a (much slower) software-based version of the volume renderer. Some users have reported that the program crashes when attempting to use the hardware-accelerated version. To enable using at least the software-based version in these cases, we will offer a switch that forces using the software renderer in the next maintenance release. Furthermore, we want to post a list of supported and unsupported graphics cards and invite you to send us a short email whether hardware-based rendering does (not) work on your system; we recommend to compose an email using the new "Submit Bug or Suggestion" item in the "Help" menu since that will also provide us with information about the used operating system.

BrainVoyager QX v2.1.2 Maintenance Release |
- 01 MAR 2010 Release of BrainVoyager QX v2.1.2. BrainVoyager QX 2.1.2 is a maintenance release providing several important bug fixes and its installation is recommended for all users (use installers posted at the "Downloads" page of our web site). The most severe bug that has been addressed is a bug in the VOI center-of-gravity table that could occur when VOIs of subjects were defined with a VMR that was not in Talairach space (e.g. an averaged brain not marked as "TAL"). For details, as well as for a description of other fixed bugs and enhancements, see the updated 2.1 release notes.
This release also includes the GCM Plugin that was missing in previous 2.0 / 2.1 releases. Besides cross-platform compatibility (it runs now on 32 and 64 bit Windows, Mac and Linux), the plugin has been updated to handle the new VTC format, i.e. VTC files may contain 4-byte float or 2-byte integer data.

BrainVoyager QX v2.1.1 Maintenance Release |
- 04 FEB 2010 Release of BrainVoyager QX v2.1.1. BrainVoyager QX 2.1.1 is a maintenance release providing several bug fixes and its installation is recommended for all users (use installers posted at the "Downloads" page of our web site). The most relevant bug that has been addressed is the "Zero covariance matrix in fitting routine" issue that was reported by many users; this message could appear at the end of motion correction and required re-running pre-processing. While this usually worked fine, users did not know whether this really fixed the problem. Inspection of the error showed indeed that the data is processed correctly in case that the message does not appear so no re-processing of data is necessary. Nonetheless, the bug is annoying, especially when running scripted analyses. It turned out that the underlying problem was actually not located in the motion correction routine but occured sporadically in the slice scan time correction routine when using spline interpolation (default). This problem has been fixed in the 2.1.1 release.
The 2.1.1 maintenance release also fixes some other issues providing better processing and integration of functional and anatomical data sets with non-standard image dimensions.

Known Issues - BrainVoyager QX v2.0.7 |
- 28 AUG 2009 Release of BrainVoyager QX v2.0.8. BrainVoyager QX 2.0.8 has been released to correct bugs detected in version 2.0.7. One bug (detected on 27 AUG) concerns FMR preprocessing and is classified as critical since its full correction requires likely redoing the preprocessing. The problem occured in versions 2.0.7 (and 2.0.6) in case that several FMR preprocessing steps were selected in the "FMR Preprocessing" dialog and performed in one go; in this case, the final peprocessing result does not always contain the results from all performed preprocessing steps, but contains only the result of the last performed preprocessing step. If, for example, spatial smoothing and high-pass filtering are selected, the resulting preprocessed data might only reflect the high-pass filtering but not the spatial smoothing step. This problem did not occur when single preprocessing steps were performed or when using scripted preprocessing. This issue has been fixed in 2.0.8 and we strongly suggest to switch to the new version to avoid the problem in the future. To be on the safe side, we furthermore recommend redoing FMR preprocessing with the 2.0.8 version for those FMR/DMR files that were preprocessed with version 2.0.6 or 2.0.7. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
The 2.0.8 maintenance release also fixes some other bugs including an issue with VMR averaging and a problem with specifying the size of patches for time course selection on meshes. These bugs are described in more detail in the updated release notes in the section "Bug Fixes". Furthermore, the updated installer will install all available plugins correctly - in the previous version, some plugins did not show up in the "Plugins" menu on some platforms.

Known Issues - BrainVoyager QX v2.0.6 |
- 3 JUL 2009 Release of BrainVoyager QX v2.0.7. BrainVoyager QX 2.0.6 has been released in mid-June. While we received largely positive feedback, there was one issue reported with the "rename DICOM" tool, which would simply not rename some data sets. This issue has beenn fixed and a new patch release (v2.0.7, build 1470) has been made available. Another minor improvement concerns MVPA tools: it was not stated in the documentation of 2.0.6 that the MVPA trial estimation step requires protocols in "volume resolution"; this info has been added in the User's Guide and the program also presents a respective message box when running the tool with "millisecond" protocols. In order to avoid the "rename DICOM" problem and for other minor improvements, we recommend to update to the latest program version.
The Mac 64-bit version currently suffers from a major GUI problem preventing editing data fields in some widgets; this issue is not due to our code and has been filed as a bug report to the provider of the used GUI tool (Qt software, Nokia). Until this issue is fixed, we recommend using the 32-bit Mac version.

Known Issues - BrainVoyager QX v1.10.4 |
- 30 MAY 2009 1.10.4 / 2.0 Update info. A new version of 1.10.4 (build 1255) is available, which fixes the "sub-optimal MTC generation" problem reported below.
To download the update, put this link in your web browser (mark it with the cursor, right click and select "Copy"):
http://www.brainvoyager.com/bvqx/autoupdate/Program/Win/BVQX_Win_v1104_b1255.zip. Activate the link in your browser, e.g. by pressing the "Return" button, to start the download.
When the download has been finsihed, unzip the file to get the executable contained in the zip file and replace the old 1.10.4 version in the "BrainVoyager QX" folder (typically in the
"Program Files" directory). If you need an update for other platforms, send an email to support_at_BrainVoyager_dot_com.
In order to maximally benefit from our newly established extensive testing procedure, we decided to delay the release of version 2.0 for a few weeks.
The quality assurance tests are now complete and version 2.0 will be released in early June. To learn about major new features of BVQX 2.0, check the
last blog entries in Rainer's BV Blog.
- 30 MAR 2009 Sub-optimal MTC generation. When creating a MTC file from a VTC file, the sampling of the VTC voxels is not optimal leading to spatial blurring. This recently detected bug occurs during trilinear interpolation
using not the correct weights for integrating neighboring voxels. Since the local displacements are in the sub-voxel range, the problem had not been discovered earlier.
Solution: The problem has been fixed for the upcoming BrainVoyager QX 2.0 version, which will be released in April. Furthermore an update of 1.10.4 will
be available via "automatic web update". If you are using MTCs, you should update to one of these versions and recalculate the MTC files.

Known Issues - BrainVoyager QX v1.10.2 |
- 27 JUL 2008 RFX-GLM bug affecting between-subjects ANCOVA analyses. A severe bug has been detected when calculating between-subjects ANCOVA models for the case that these models were based on RFX-GLMs as input. The bug could be localized within the RFX-GLM routine, which was updated for version 1.10.2. The bug was not detected during testing, because it affects only subsequent between-subjects ANCOVA models if these are based on RFX-GLMs. All values used for statistical assessment of RFX-GLM contrasts were calculated correctly. This problem did not occur when calculating standard separate-subjects GLMs; the issue did also not affect any ROI-GLM-based ANCOVA results, and it did not affect any ANCOVA model using VMP or CMP data as input.
Solution: Update to version v1.10.3 using automatic web update and recalculate RFX-GLMs in case that you used them as input for ANCOVA models with between-subjects factors.
How do I perform an "automatic web update"?
This feature is currently disabled; it is planned to re-enable this feature with version 2.3 of BrainVoyager QX. All updates will be reported here and can be directly downloaded from the BrainVoyager web site.
